Treat Your Obstructive Sleep Apnea Carefully With CPAP Machines

Sinus congestion, diabetes and other causes may sometimes contribute to a deficiency in oxygen. The consequences of this can be as lethal as an accident or heart attack. For those afflicted with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), the foundation for life is disrupted, both mentally and physically.

What Causes Sleep Apnea?

The collapse of the airway and subsequent breathing cessation is caused by the soft tissue in the back of the tongue compressing on the throat and/or collapsing of one or both sides of the palate. These collapses occur when you are sleeping and are most prevalent during sleep and that’s the reason you need to use cpap machines.

Facts About Sleep Apnea

The symptoms for Sleep Apnea are not always easy to spot. In fact, most patients only realize they have this condition after being told by a family member or someone else close.

Most cases go undiagnosed since those afflicted assume that snoring is pretty normal and a part of life. Before snores were called “Obstructive Snoring” or “OSA”, the condition was referred to as “Nocturnal Myoclonus,” a term that no longer is used.

In some cases, sufferers are unaware they have a problem with sleep until they have their first major health breakdown. Then, it is too late.

It is important to know that OSA is common and can occur in anyone at any time. It occurs frequently for men compared to women and can be intermittent as well as continuous.

Although there are many factors that may contribute to the severity of the condition such as obesity, it also can be caused by other medical disorders such as diabetes.
